Local SEO for Tallinn businesses: how to show up in Google Maps and local search

How Tallinn businesses get into the Google Maps "local pack": the profile settings, directory listings, reviews and website signals that matter most.

When someone in Tallinn searches for a dentist, a restaurant or a web agency, Google usually shows a map with three businesses before any normal results. Getting into that "local pack" is worth more than almost any other marketing for a local business. Here is how it works and what to do, in order of impact.

How Google ranks local results

Google weighs three things:

  • Relevance: how well your business matches the search
  • Distance: how close you are to the searcher or the place they searched for
  • Prominence: how well known you are, based on reviews, links, mentions and your website

You can't move your office, but you can work on relevance and prominence.

1. Claim and complete your Google Business Profile

This is the most important step.

  • Use your real business name, exactly as customers know it. Don't stuff keywords into it
  • Choose the most specific primary category, then add secondary ones
  • Add your exact address, phone number, website and opening hours, including holiday hours
  • Write a description that says what you do and where
  • Add real photos of your premises, team and work
  • List your services or products with short descriptions
  • Post updates, offers or news regularly

2. Keep your NAP identical everywhere

NAP means name, address and phone number. They should be written identically on your website, Google Business Profile and every directory. For an Estonian address, pick one format, such as "Tartu mnt 82, 10112 Tallinn", and use it everywhere. Mixing "mnt" and "maantee" or different phone formats creates small doubts for search engines.

3. Get listed in Estonian directories

Listings in trusted local directories confirm your details and help people find you. Start with the places Estonians actually look up companies, such as:

  • inforegister.ee and teatmik.ee, which draw on Business Register data, so check that your details there are correct
  • 1182.ee
  • Bing Places and Apple Business Connect, so you appear in Bing, Apple Maps and Siri
  • Industry directories and associations relevant to your field

4. Earn reviews, and reply to them

Reviews affect both ranking and whether people click. Ask happy customers directly, with a short link to your review page. Reply to every review, positive or negative, politely and in the language it was written in.

5. Make your website local

Your website is a strong local signal. Make sure:

  • Your name, address and phone number are in the footer of every page
  • You have a contact page with a map and directions
  • Page titles and headings mention your city where it's natural, such as "Dental clinic in Kristiine, Tallinn"
  • You use LocalBusiness structured data (schema.org) with your address and opening hours
  • If you serve several cities, each has its own useful page, not a copy with the city name swapped

6. Cover every language your customers search in

In Tallinn many people search in Estonian, others in Russian or English. A page per language, with proper hreflang tags, lets you rank in all of them. See our multilingual website guide.

7. Get mentioned locally

Links and mentions from local news sites, partners, suppliers, events and associations build prominence. Sponsoring a local event or writing a useful guide for your industry often earns these naturally.

8. Measure

  • Google Business Profile performance: searches, calls, direction requests and website clicks
  • Google Search Console: which local searches bring visitors
  • Where your leads say they found you. Ask on your contact form

Quick answers

FAQ

How do I get my Tallinn business on Google Maps?

Create and verify a Google Business Profile with your exact business name, address, phone number, category and opening hours. Then add photos, services and collect reviews to improve your ranking.

What is NAP in local SEO?

NAP stands for name, address and phone number. Keeping them identical on your website, Google Business Profile and directories helps search engines trust your business details.

Do I need separate pages for each city I serve?

If you genuinely serve several cities, a page per city with useful, specific information helps local search. Avoid copies of the same page with only the city name changed.
